Shell's story in Taiwan

Shell is a world brand spanning two centuries and has a history of hundreds of years in Taiwan.

During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, the Royal Dutch Shell Group purchased land to build an oil depot and warehouse in Bitouzai, which is now next to Tamsui Station of the Taipei MRT. They took advantage of the convenient navigation at that time to import oil products into Taiwan for sale. Subsequently, Taiwan was ceded to Japan in accordance with the Treaty of Shimonoseki. In 1900, the Royal Dutch Shell Group established the "Sun Oil Company" in Japan, which was responsible for Shell's business in Taiwan. The oil depot and warehouse were donated to the New Taipei City Tamsui Cultural Foundation in 2000 to help Tamsui promote local arts and cultural activities. After the Tamsui Cultural Foundation took over, it took seven years to complete the restoration project of the historic site, and it was officially opened to the public as the "Tsui Cultural Park" in November 2011. There is a "Shell Story Hall" in the park, which permanently exhibits the history and development of Shell warehouses. The park is now also home to Tamsui Community College. It also holds various art and cultural performances from time to time, making a considerable contribution to the revitalization of Tamsui's cultural and creative development and international cultural exchanges.

After World War II, the Royal Dutch Shell Group's business in Taiwan was entrusted to the "Kilin Company" as its general agent. It was not until 1979 that the Royal Dutch Shell Group resumed direct operations in the Taiwan market under the name of "Shell Pacific Development Company Taiwan Branch". In 1988, the Royal Dutch Shell Group officially established Taiwan Shell Co., Ltd., which has been in business ever since.

However, in recent years, in order to respond to the new trend of Royal Dutch Shell Group's global strategic layout, Taiwan Shell has gradually transformed its chemicals, industrial and vehicle lubricants business into a sales method through general agents or dealers, and continues to provide customers with better services. Excellent service. Businesses such as bulk oil trading, liquefied natural gas, and marine lubricants are directly operated by Taiwan Shell Co., Ltd.
